Splat...Blessing On the Wheel

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

“Splat!”

The clay, smashed flat once again on the wheel of the Potter. A flawed, unyielding, toughness has landed it back onto this great wheel. Yet, the Potter has plans for this formless piece of clay to fulfill a purpose. But first, some adjustments.

Most “finished” pieces that capture our attention, the ones sitting on display shelves, those which are considered “finished and useable”, appear as flawlessly beautiful, valuable masterpieces, complete with an autographed tag of the Potter. Do we stop to consider that they were once only lumps of clay too. And, still have to be dusted and repaired occasionally.

Now, it’s been reduced once more, but this is a blessing - not the end. There is still great opportunity to be a finished, signed masterpiece. It only has to yield!

I’ve always loved the story of the Potter and clay. Since I was a child, the imagery has always touched my heart. So, I write this today, realizing that sometimes I get sidetracked and beside myself-  and find myself laying in a lump on the Potter’s wheel again. “Splat!”

Each day brings with it situations and opportunities which are capable of causing us issues. It’s usually the little things which we don’t immediately take to the Potter which cause us to become hard and unyielding in His hands. Trouble spots can be something different for each of us. We all live in this stuff called flesh, yet at the same time, we’re all priceless vessels of honor in the making. That’s the most important thing to remember...after we’ve gotten off of our knees in repentance.

We don’t have to give up the hope of becoming something beautiful, we only have to yield ourselves, our preferences, our desires and our plans to Him...sometime that takes us lying face down in humility.

We get overwhelmed from time to time. I’m guilty! Moments come when we feel tired, overlooked, overwhelmed; we become consumed and honestly, there are days when we don’t care for our lot in life. All indicators that we need a break to take our stuff to the Lord. He can help ease our load and straighten our hearts and thought processes out...and give us a chance for a fresh start.

“Splat!” It isn’t so bad for us after all!

God sees us on our bad days; He also sees us just like He’s created us, and through His eyes it looks a little different than what we see in ourselves most of the time. Even when we are feeling hopelessly flawed and all up in our feels, He is not deterred or turned off by our condition or His outlook on our future.

He doesn’t mind starting from ground zero as we choose to yield to His will.

As life happens, before we know it, we can be pretty off our intended path. Yet, we only need bow a knee and ask God’s forgiveness - simple enough; then He will begin again...with the rich, yielded clay with which He can do anything. What hope!

We are His workmanship!

“Splat!”

What an amazing feeling it is to realize that God organizes the details of our lives. Even our wheel time! He opens our eyes to see we’re not exactly where we should be. He tugs on our hearts longing for us to give it all to Him. He blesses us with “little things” just to show us He’s looking out for us. He longs for us to just yield.

I’ve been up here on the wheel today, and I invite you to join me. I’m not proud, but honest. Are you feeling anything other than victorious? Are you restless? Feeling down? Overwhelmed? Maybe it’s time to bend a knee and open those confused, tired, aching hearts completely unto Him. It’s such a relief to give it ALL to Him.

Yield to His gentle hands, there is a purpose for everything. He is whispering that to me today...maybe you too. The greatest moments of overwhelm often come right before the blessing!

We CAN be a beautiful vessel. There IS blessing in wheel time. Believe it, and yield to it. He has a purpose for the “Splat!”
