Light in Darkness

“...I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness...” John 8:12

This holiday season brings about a whole range of emotions for people everywhere. I think we’d all agree it’s been a crazy difficult year, don’t you? In fact, a lot of families are winding up 2020 in the dark.

From the loss of “life as normal”, to the loss of income, to the loss of loved ones, and everything in between. Yeah, this old world can be a pretty dark place, can’t it?

If it wasn’t 2020 that made this season a little less enjoyable for us, perhaps we were already expecting  to go through the holidays with one less person to buy presents for or one less chair around our tables. The holidays are supposed to bring joy and cheer, but again, for many it brings that familiar aching of the heart to light.

I’m making it through this season with a smile on my face thus far, but underneath there are places that ache quite badly some days. What should be. What was supposed to be. Others may be in the darkest seasons of their life. I think we could all agree that life takes us along some very unwanted twists and turns. Right?!

Thankfully, we have a Heavenly Father who loves us enough to shine His light into our darkest seasons. It only takes the tiny light of a single match to dispel darkness. Yet, our great big God, in all His glory, beams His presence into our lives and helps us walk one day at a time basking in His glory, mercy and grace.

True, it may not seem so warm and bright in our opinion right now, but could you imagine how dark the darkness would be without Him? I can’t!

So, this holiday season let’s be aware of His presence. It’s so much more important than any other presents we could receive. Let’s take every opportunity to share that light with someone who is hurting. And, if it’s us who is dealing with unwanted pain, let’s rest in knowing that God is light, the light of the world, the light in our hearts. We are not alone and as long as He is by our side, we’re never in complete darkness. What hope!!

God bless each of you this Christmas holiday and may God’s love and light keep you safe and warm and may you feel Him holding you close. He is our peace, comfort and joy; and that is something to rejoice about - even in through the pain. Be blessed and encouraged today...and pass it on.
