Make HALF Your Empty

With a little giggle, she reached to open the front door, "Mom, you're so devotional!" and with that she was gone.

I watched her back out of the driveway and then sat for a few moments pondering our short conversation concerning her gas tank issues.

"Make HALF your empty!", I had said to her. She shook her head in agreement. If she didn't let her tank get below half, she'd never ever have to worry about it being on "E". Made perfect sense to  us logically-thinking females. Then the next phrase had just spilled from my mouth effortlessly, "Let that be in EVERY area of your life."

She had known to what area in particular I was referring by that statement. The spiritual one. And thus the "devotional" label applied.

But isn't it true, ladies? What if we made it a practice to keep ourselves from getting so low that we're struggling and praying and begging God to hold us up till we can get to the filling station once again? Why do we go and go until we're at that dangerous state of having to pull over on the side of the road and wait for a good Samaritan to come along with a gas can? Wouldn't it be easier to stay full or at least more than half empty?

My daughter decided instead of just putting $10 or so in her tank, that she would fill her Yukon up "just in case" an emergency might arise. Smart thinking, chic! We never can be sure when that might happen. It is the same thing in the spiritual realm of our lives. We are never assured of a day without traps, snares, fiery darts, etc, but we can be prepared for them just the keeping out spiritual tanks well supplied.

So, today, that little phrase that spilled ever so graciously from my mouth, spoke volumes to my heart as well and I wanted to share it with you. My friend, let's make HALF our empty and we'll always find ourselves prepared for the unexpected things a day can bring. We'll always have something to fall back on in times that might otherwise zap us dry.  Blessings on you and yours~
